green with envy

My favorite season has finally arrived…fall is in full swing, brining with it rich shades of browns, burnt oranges & reds, and plenty of pumpkin spice lattes.  This season, however, I’m lusting over a color thats a bit out of the ordinary fall color range: enter emerald green. Named one of fall 2016’s top colors by Pantone, green is traditionally associated with growth, rebirth, & prosperity.  This luscious shade mimics an instant sense of richness and depth.  This season, pair emerald green in your home & fashion styling to bring warmth as the surrounding foliage dissapears.  Pair deep greens alongside all-white and neutrals to establish an elegant, luxurious feel.  Or, dress deep greens with shades of purples for an instant, lush bohemian vibe.  Deep emerald also pairs beautifully with metallics and animal prints, adding extra glitz & glam to any application…gold & green is a match made in heaven, in my opinion😉 Check out my favorite emerald applications below to get your green inspiration goin’…

summer antiquing!

I came across the article top U.S. towns for summer antiquing on, which mentions all of the best towns for antique hunting this summer.  For me personally, this article really hit home because I have recently become totally obsessed with vintage hunting (mostly for furniture and funky home-decor doo-dads!)  Upon relocating to NYC a few months ago, I have become an assistant designer at a brilliant antique-eclectic-home decor-interiors and wallpaper shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Part of what we do is find, purchase, refurbish & style antiques to sell…dream job! Along my journey thus far, I have learned so much working in a setting which revolves around scouting out the perfect antique pieces. It’s amazing to me how adding a few antique furnishings into a room can really jazz it up and create an eclectic, worldly vibe that is so unique and reflective of one’s personal style.  Here, I have put together my go-to list of all my favorite places to hunt for that perfect vintage element-whether it be a velvet sofa or antique chinoiserie mirror-which so easily can transform any interior into an upscale, yet edgy dream space…

  1. Craig’s List: I have gotten so many steals via good ole’ craig’s list..a lot of times people don’t know the value and history behind what they have, so this can truly be a great tool for scoring a hidden gem at an extremely affordable price. Craig’s listings are often looking to get rid of their items quickly and are much more likely to negotiate lower pricing with you.
  2. Another way to browse thousands of antique finds from the comfort of your own computer…this online vintage marketplace site has a huge selection with a lot of beautiful pieces.
  3. Yard Sales, Stoop Sales, Estate Sales
  4. Flea Markets (I love Scott’s Antique Market in Atlanta): One of my favorite past-times, you truly can’t go wrong with waking up early and hitting a giant flea market and exploring the hundreds of stalls…there is something for everyone at places like these. Tip: always be sure to get to any kind of market or auction EARLY! The early bird truly gets the worm in the antique world…before you know it everything will be picked through and all of the gems are gone.
  5. Grace & Favor: If you are in NYC, be sure to stop by the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn to check out the ever-changing eclectic mix of hand selected and refurbished antiques and funky home decor items here! This shop also boasts nearly a thousand different beautiful high-end European wallpapers and offers one-on-one design consultations…easily the best interiors shop in Brooklyn!

And always remember, almost anything can be spruced up with a fresh coat of paint or new glamorous upholstery. Be sure to keep an open mind, a creative vision, and embrace the endless possibilities that go along with styling and refurbishing antiques.

This summer, I’m loving mid-century pieces mixed alongside bohemian-esque furnishings such as rattan peacock chairs, vintage etched-silver moroccan lamps, and hand-woven vibrant Turkish Rugs. Here are some of my favorite vintage interior pieces this summer:

porch glam

Hi design lovers! Please excuse my absence from my blog the past few weeks, I’ve been busy getting situated and moving to…NYC! Finally here and constantly lusting over gorgeous apartments with the cutest little patios throughout the city. Here, I’ve put together my must have list of decor pieces, furniture & stylish pillows to create the ultimate colorful bohemian porch oasis–perfect for lounging on a beautiful spring night with a fruity cocktail. This season, I’m loving: funky, geometric patterns, vibrant warm colors to match the fresh spring blooms, pops of metallic for a touch of glam, lots of candles (instantly turns a space into a dreamland!), modern-inspired furnishings with clean lines, crochet/woven furniture & decor items, and anything with fringe (as always). Add a hammock and a few strings of outdoor cafe lights for an extra cozy feel!

sueños tropicales / tropical dreams

This past weekend I hosted a tropical moving away party for one of my best friends I.  After countless hours of browsing on Pinterest, I came up with a plethora of tropical party ideas, ranging from decor to finger foods to bar setups. I wanted the overall ambiance to embody a tropical glam feel. Below I have highlighted some of the DIYs & party treats that were a part of our upscale luau…any of these sassy, creative & chic ideas can be utilized for outdoor gatherings & parties all season long. Check out my photos below to gain some inspo for your next shindig:

I served a tropical rendition of my favorite island sip, the Painkiller (coconut milk & passion fruit juice). I found the cutest rock candy sticks to use as sassy swizzle sticks alongside my tropical concoction! Fun coral cups & aqua napkins tied my bar cart all together (note: it was breezy outside so I used a brown coconut as a weight to hold my napkins down..eeek the cuteness is killing me!)  I also served a tub filled with coconut waters on ice for my guests to stay hydrated the tropical way.

I’m completely obsessed with these (thank you Pinterest). I simply halved a lime, & carved out the inner pulp so the perfect cup-shaped lime shell remained. I then mixed watermelon jell-O with passion fruit rum & poured the mixture into the hollowed out lime shells. I let the Jell-O set for 4 hours–& out came the cutest little baby watermelon shots!! I added a sprinkle of sesame seeds (you can’t taste them at all) on top to give the effect of watermelon seeds. IMG_1424I also surprised my guests with tropical goody bags-filled with a small can of pineapple juice, a baby shot of Malibu coconut rum & a baby shot of regular rum. The perfect party favor filled with island flavors. & don’t forget the Hawaiian paper umbrellas!!

I served a pineapple shaped cheese ball-such a hit. I used my normal cheese ball recipe and shaped it into a pineapple. I layered whole pecans around the top of the cheese ball to mimic a pineapple pattern. Lastly, I stuck the leaf part of a fresh pineapple onto the top of the cheese ball for the complete look. So cute & so easy!Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetI also had individual cups of tropical trail mix-macadamia nuts, peanuts, white chocolate chips, cashews & dried banana chips. I served fresh Thai basil rolls with peanut dipping sauce (one of my guilty pleasures. Also served cold so that makes it a perfect party app) Lastly, I served assorted fruit kebabs & chocolate covered banana bites! Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 preset

sandy coconuts & palm leaves

all this talk on my blog about cocktails, Thailand, spring weather & porch decor has got me in the mood! This weekend I will be hosting a tropical themed porch party. I’m going for a tropical-bohemian-chic look, which is my favorite design style as of late….shades of green accented with deep purples & peachy pinks, tropical greenery & florals, pops of metallic, natural wood table settings & silver serving trays, pineapple motifs, tropical themed foods (such as chocolate covered frozen banana bites & coconut macaroons!), & of course a delicious signature coco-pineapple cocktail concoction. This ain’t your average Luau! & a full-monty tropical party isn’t complete without adult goody bags- mine will be sporting baby bottles of Malibu rum & pineapple juice! A complete blog post will follow the event, showcasing the little design details I have put together. Stay tuned! For now, I thought I would really get my creative juices flowing with a post dedicated to all things tropical !  Here are a few (or a lot) of inspirations that have helped me to channel the island vibes! All photos below are via Pinterest.

spring sips

it’s about that time– 70 degree weather, blue skies, a steady breeze, a patio lit with mystical string lights, good company & outdoor grilling. Kick back & round it all out with a beautiful craft cocktail. I love mixing and matching fun & funky cocktail flavors, & trying new renditions of the classics-so here I’ve put together a list of must try sips this season.

(note: cocktails are best paired alongside a bohemian chic porch–look out for a post coming soon highlighting porch decor to channel your boho spring patio oasis!)

lavender visions

one of the most important things in life is drawing inspirations from daily surroundings.  Always take note in the little things-baby buds blooming on a tree during your Sunday afternoon stroll, the way the sky looks at certain points during the day, the icing details on beautifully crafted desserts in the bakery window. Small details like this are what drive design inspirations for me on a daily basis.  This leads me to my latest enthrallment: the color purple.

Untitled presentation (75).png

At first mention, purple might seem a bit passe’ and outdated.  However, purple is making a major comeback and has bloomed far from that stark, in your face, unicorn-mane color we all remember from 7th grade.  Purple is on my radar right now because of its versatility-play with deep, cooler shades of purple paired with blue hues; take it down the pastel road for a fresh spring look; or style purple in more magenta, vibrant shades alongside bohemian oranges and yellows. Whether it be via interior design, beauty, fashion, food-there is a purple hue for every occasion.  Pair deep plum alongside white in your home for an elegant, refined look; style amethyst jewel tones with neutrals and pastels for a bright change of pace in your wardrobe this spring; or incorporate bright magenta throw pillows outside on your porch for a boho-chic tropical feel.  Untitled presentation (76).pngUntitled presentation (77).pngUntitled presentation (78).pngUntitled presentation (80).pngUntitled presentation (83)Untitled presentation (82).pngUntitled presentation (86).pngUntitled presentation (85).pngUntitled presentation (87)Untitled presentation (84).png
